The National Society's Godly Play Schools' Project

Godly play is an approach to religious nurture, developed by the American religious educator and Montessori teacher, Jerome Berryman.

Over the past three years, with funding from the St Christopher's Trust, teachers from schools in the Midlands, London and Herefordshire have been exploring the Godly Play approach in RE lessons, to see whether the method can be adapted and appropriately used in schools in the UK.

Several lines of enquiry were followed:

The Godly Play method has had a profound and often surprising impact on the teachers involved in the project. Some have found that they are rethinking not just how they approach their RE lessons; but the whole process of teaching and learning.
