The Church in Wales new religious education syllabus for primary schools

Peter Williams, Diocesan Director of Education for St Asaph Diocese, writes commending this new syllabus written in 2002:

cover of Welsh national syllabusThis new syllabus, for use in Church schools throughout Wales, draws upon, firstly, the willingness, indeed eagerness, with which our Church schools seek to celebrate and enhance their distinctiveness as Christian institutions and secondly, the uniqueness of Wales, its religious history, its language and culture and the principles of the Church in Wales.

We owe its author, Dr William Kay, until recently of Trinity College, Carmarthen, but now a Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Education at Kings College London, and at University of Wales, Bangor, and all those who helped in its production and publication a debt of gratitude. It will, as Archbishop Rowan says in his foreword, 'have an effect on the Christian life in Wales for many generations'.

In the downloadable documents that follow you will find, in addition to the RE syllabus, suggested learning activities, assessment ideas and resources. All this is divided into three sections: Early Years, KS1 and KS2. The syllabus itself is divided into six strands: Bible, Jesus, Church, Christian Life and Values, Festivals, and Other Faiths.
