In the Church school, there are areas of the school curriculum that offer valuable opportunities to challenge and encourage pupils to consider the values framework within which their education is to be set. In this section, approaches to teaching sex education in the Christian school are explored. A Christian context is offered for teaching and learning in citizenship, PSHE, and careers education.
Sex
education
Among the most important issues for Church schools in
developing their policies on sex education will be the
values framework within which the work is to be set.
Guidance and resources are offered in this section to
support governing bodies in the production of a coherent,
well-balanced programme of sex education.
Citizenship
Within the context of a Christian vision for education,
the various strands of citizenship at Key Stages 1-4 are
outlined in this section. Church schools are challenged
to place values such as justice and love, rooted in a
Christian understanding of God, at the heart of their
citizenship education.
PSHE
PSHE comprises all aspects of a schools' planned
provision to promote pupils' social development,
including health and wellbeing. Links are made with its
companion subject, citizenship, and the ways in which the
two should explicitly reflect the values and ethos of the
Church school.
Careers
education and guidance
Careers education and guidance (CEG) is concerned with
helping pupils develop their role as learners and
workers. Links are made with its companion subjects,
citizenship and PSHE, and the ways in which they should
explicitly reflect the values and ethos of the Church
school.
