The law as regards the responsibility of the governing body and the headteacher for discipline is found in the Education Act 1996 Part II, chapter VI, section 154.
More recently, the area of law regarding the responsibilities of the governing body and the headteacher to ensure that discipline policies are in place is found in the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 Part II, chapter V, sections 61-62.
