Complaints: To governors

The law

The legal framework as regards concerns expressed by parents and others about the school curriculum is found in the Education Reform Act 1988, sections 23(1) and 58. This explains that all LEAs have set up procedures, with the approval of the Secretary of State, for complaints about the actions of governing bodies and LEAs with regard to the curriculum.

The law as regards the complaints and enforcement procedure can be found in the Education Act 1996 Part V, chapter IV, section 409.

Guidance

Guidance for this area can be found in the Department for Education Circular 1/94, paragraphs 134-139.
